Keep these four tips from professional designers in mind when you’re setting up your living room, bedroom or family room:
- Decorator Angelo Surmelis says to place couches and chairs a few inches away from any wall. This creates breathing room and makes your space seem larger.
- HGTV’s designer Erinn Valencich suggests spreading light sources throughout a room to make sure some light shines in every corner.
- When it comes to window dressings, architectural interior designer Nicole Sassaman says that it’s best to hang drapes from ceilings to floor. This makes the ceiling seem higher.
- Art and other hanging wall decorations should be placed at least 24 to 36 inches above the top of the furniture line to create a clean and streamlined effect.
