Few experiences capture the feeling of fall quite like wandering through an apple orchard on a crisp afternoon.

Central Ohio has several beautiful farms and orchards where you can pick apples, enjoy fresh cider, explore seasonal activities, and stock up on fall treats.

Branstool Orchards in Utica offers 37 varieties of apples, while Pigeon Roost Farm in Hebron combines apple and pumpkin-season fun with activities such as a corn maze and wagon rides. Van Buren Acres also offers a pumpkin patch, corn maze, sunflower trail, and cow train.

Preferred tip: Make a day of it. Grab a warm drink on the way, spend the afternoon at the orchard, and finish the evening with dinner at one of Columbus' many locally owned restaurants.

���� 2. Find Your Perfect Pumpkin

Whether you're decorating your front porch, carving jack-o'-lanterns with the kids, or simply looking for the perfect fall photo opportunity, pumpkin patches are a seasonal must.

Lynd Fruit Farm, Pigeon Roost Farm, Van Buren Acres, and other Central Ohio farms offer plenty of ways to turn pumpkin picking into an afternoon adventure.

And don't forget the cider, donuts, hayrides, and corn mazes that often come with it.

���� 3. Go Leaf Peeping Around Columbus

You don't have to travel hours away to experience beautiful fall foliage.

Columbus' parks, neighborhoods, and Metro Parks provide plenty of opportunities to see the leaves change. Take a leisurely walk through Scioto Audubon Metro Park, explore Schiller Park in German Village, or spend an afternoon discovering one of Central Ohio's many scenic trails.

Fall is also the perfect season to explore Columbus' charming neighborhoods on foot.

For one of the most beautiful fall experiences in Columbus, head to Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens for Harvest Blooms, running September 26 through November 1, 2026.

The gardens are transformed with pumpkins, mums, cabbages, fall foliage, and creative horticultural displays—including whimsical pumpkin houses that are practically made for fall photos.

It's a wonderful choice for families, couples, or an afternoon spent simply enjoying the season.

���� 5. See More Than 700 Pumpkins at Pumpkins Aglow

Once the sun goes down, Franklin Park Conservatory takes on a completely different atmosphere.

Pumpkins Aglow, running October 7 through November 1, features more than 700 hand-carved pumpkins along with themed displays featuring everything from pirates and spiders to mermaids and aliens.

It's one of those Columbus fall traditions that's worth putting on the calendar early.

Perfect for: Families, date nights, visiting guests, and your fall Instagram feed.

���� 6. Spend a Fall Day at the Columbus Zoo

Fall is a fantastic time to visit the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, and the Zoo has several seasonal experiences worth adding to your list.

Lantern Festival

Through October 25, the Lantern Festival transforms the Zoo after dark with more than 70 sets of illuminated Asian-inspired animal lanterns. The 2026 festival also introduces dinosaur lanterns for an extra dose of prehistoric fun.

Boo at the Zoo

For family-friendly Halloween fun, Boo at the Zoo takes place October 3–4, 10–11, 17–18, and 24–25.

The "merry-not-scary" celebration includes Halloween activities, costumes, entertainment, and trick-or-treating throughout Adventure Cove.

Preferred tip: Make it a full fall day. Explore the Zoo during the afternoon, take a break for dinner, and come back after dark for the Lantern Festival.

���� 7. Celebrate Oktoberfest

Columbus' German heritage takes center stage at Schmidt's Columbus Oktoberfest, September 11–13 at the Ohio Expo Center.

Expect German food, live music, cultural traditions, and plenty of festive energy. The celebration has been a Columbus tradition for more than 50 years.

Grab your friends, embrace the lederhosen-and-dirndl spirit, and enjoy one of Columbus' most established fall festivals.

Orchard season is starting soon, so get ready to go peach picking and apple picking in Columbus! Peach season is in July and August, and apple season typically runs from July to early November, wrapping up with my favorite variety, Goldrush! 

I’ve gathered a list of the 12 best places for apple picking in Columbus, and the 5 best orchards for peach picking in Columbus. Go multiple times, and you can have a freshly picked peach or apple a day for the next few months!
 

Apple Picking in Columbus

Since apples are available July through October, you have plenty of time to pick your favorite apple varieties and try some new ones. Go apple picking at different times this fall and see what new varieties you can try. 

Whether you prefer sweet, tangy, or sour apples for eating or cooking, there are so many varieties to choose from. If you hope to store some for the winter, ask which options are best for storing! 

Before you head to an orchard to pick apples, make sure to verify u-pick times and availability, or confirm on their Facebook page.

Making the decision to declutter your apartment can feel like a big task but breaking it down into manageable steps makes it much easier. Here are practical tips and a guide to help you get started:

1. Set a Clear Goal & Have a Game Plan-Define what you want to achieve and figure out what your decluttering goal is. Do you want a more organized living space, less stress or just get rid of a visible mess? Knowing your "why" can help you stay focused and help you prioritize tasks and figure out your next steps.

2. Start Small-Pick one room, or even just one area, like a closet, desk, or drawer, to begin with. This way, you won’t feel overwhelmed.  Start with what you feel is the easiest room first, this can help also with not feeling too overwhelmed too soon.

3. Use the "Four-Box Method"-Have four boxes or bags labeled:

• • Keep: Items you use or love. (A tip inspired by Marie Kondo: Before keeping something, ask whether it truly brings you joy or adds value to your life. If it doesn’t, let it go!)
  • Donate: Items in good condition that you no longer need.
  • Sell: Things you think have value that you can sell.
  • Trash: Things that are broken, expired, or no longer useful.

4. Tackle One Category at a Time-Instead of decluttering room by room, group items by category (e.g., clothing, books, kitchen gadgets, papers). This gives you a clearer sense of how much you have of each item and helps you make more decisive choices.
